Time is flying by, it only seems like five minutes since I was welcoming the children to 4M and here we are already into our second month. All the children are now settled into their new class routines and are fully aware of the high learning and behaviour expectations required of them.
The vast majority of the children have been enjoying the changes and challenges moving into year four has bought them, the most significant being that we now share assemblies with the older children in years five and six rather than the younger children. Another milestone for the children on reaching year four is that they are able to put themselves forward as a school council representative. The children had to create a visual presentation and give a speech saying why they thought they would be good at the job, quite daunting when you are eight years old! Four children from 4M put themselves forward and I am pleased and proud to tell you that all four got picked and start their careers as school council reps this month.
A continuing focus for this year is developing the children's comprehension skills across all genres (fiction, non fiction, play scripts, explanation, poetry and instruction texts). Each week in group guided reading sessions I spend time with every child questioning them on and discussing what we have read as a group. At the end of this session the children bring me their yellow reading diaries so I can stamp and initial them. I have noticed that many parents/carers are not writing in their child's diary, please do so as I do read the comments you make and it shows your child how much you value reading.
Dates for October include:
4M class trip to visit Affinity Water Treatment Plant in Bushey on Thursday 12th.
Family Reading Session on Friday 13th at 9.00 am.
Parents Evening on Monday 16th and Thursday 19th.
Please make sure you make an appointment to see me during Parents Evening as soon as the forms come home to you, the early and late appointment times always go very quickly.
Thank you for your support, it has helped get this school year off to a great start.
