October

Monday 5th October 2020

We are pleased to say that all the children have started well and they have settled in and are getting to know each other and our class routines.

This week we have enjoyed reading the book, ‘Here We Are,’ by Oliver Jeffers. Through this book we found out what the children know about their world; looked on google maps to see their local area and talked about the things they enjoy doing at home and at school.

Next week we will continue reading the book ‘Here We Are.’  We will explore looking after our own health and wellbeing, how they have changed since they were a baby as well as continuing to discuss the natural world and how it has changed and is continuing to change.

Monday 12th October

We will focus on how to be a good friend and what this looks like. We will explore these topics through the story ‘Ruby’s Worries’ by Tom Percival. Through the book we will explore the character Ruby’s emotions and the reasons and events that take place to affect these. We will complete shared writing about this. At the end of the week the children will take part in writing their own ending to the story and share ideas about what might happen next to Ruby.

In maths the children will learn to compare two amounts by counting and practice using the language fewer, less, more, equal and the same.

Monday 19th October

This week the children explored the book, ‘Ruby’s Worries’ by Tom Percival. Through the book we explored the character Ruby’s emotions and the reasons and events that take place to affect these. The children did some lovely writing about Ruby and what might be worrying her.

In celebration of Black History Month we looked at different African Art. The children made amazing African masks; collaging lots of colourful textures and weaving Kente patterns. These will all be displayed on our class board. Please look at the website – we will upload a picture when it’s done!

In Numeracy we will continue looking at comparing two amounts by counting and practice using the language fewer, more, equal and the same.

Friday 23rd October 2020

This week the children continued looking at the book, ‘Ruby’s Worries’ by Tom Percival. Through the book we explored the character Ruby’s emotions and the reasons and events that take place to affect these. The children made lovely cards to Ruby giving her strategies on what to do if something is worrying her.

In Numeracy, this week we were ordering numbers 1-10.  We were looking at numbers and comparing groups of number and using the mathematical language such as, greater than, fewer than, more than.
