29th November 2019

This week the children have been listening to the story of The Enormous Turnip, they have been acting the story out, making books and using small world toys to tell the story. Lots of the children have had ago at retelling the story in their own words. We have planted some seeds to grow in class and we will be measuring how much they grow over the next few weeks.

Next week we start Christmas! The children will be busy making cards, decorations and calendars to bring home at the end of term. They will listen to a variety of seasonal stories, wrap pretend presents in Santa’s grotto and of course we will carry on singing our new songs!

The children are doing very well with the new songs they are learning for their Christmas sing song. Each year we invite parents/carers into nursery to watch a short singsong of a few Christmas songs. This year the date for our sing song is-

Monday the 16thof December.

AM singsong-11.00 in the nursery.

PM singsong - 2.45 in the nursery.

22nd November 2019

There have been lots of busy children in the office this week. Taking registers and making phone calls. We had lots of lovely Handa books to add to our literacy display and all the children were able to help tell the story in their own words.

We will carry on extending the children’s use of positional language throughout the sessions, but next week we will also be doing lots of measuring.

The children will be introduced to the story of The Enormous Turnip and as the story is about growth we will plant some beans and measure how big they get over the next few weeks.

This week’s vocabulary sheet includes words from this story so please take a look at them with your child.

15th November 2019

This week we have been reading the story of Handa. It has lots of animals and lots of fruits for us to find out about! We will carry on with this story for another week and we will also continue to reinforce lots of positional language with the children. If you would like to help them with this at home you can play simple games where the child first has to place an object, put the banana under the chair, behind the box etc. Then change it so you place the object and they tell you where it is, ‘it’s next to the tele!’ This week’s vocabulary sheet has the words we are reinforcing in nursery.

We have had a few items of clothing left in nursery. If the clothes are not named we leave them on the cupboard to the side as you come into nursery. Please do take a look as you pass.

The children are starting to learn some new songs this term, and as Christmas looms you may hear them singing some of the songs they are learning for their Christmas sing song. Each year we invite parents/carers into nursery to watch a short singsong of a few Christmas songs. This year the date for our sing song is Monday the 16th of December.

8th November 2019

We all enjoyed the story, ‘The Owl Babies’ and finding out about shapes in the last two weeks. The children have learnt lots of new art and craft techniques while making puppets, shape pictures and painting. Some lovely books have been created and we have had some great puppet shows! Do ask your child to retell the story in their own words.

Next week we are going to use the story of Handa as our theme for the week. We are also going to encourage the children to use maths language related to position, under, behind, next to, etc.

1st November 2019

Welcome back everyone we hope you had a good half term holiday. All of the children were very pleased to come back and see their friends in nursery. This week we have been very busy once again. We have started talking to the children about the story, ‘The Owl Babies’ and we have also been finding out about shapes. We are going to continue with these themes next week. We have also been finding out about Diwali this week, some children had a go at making Divas and we listened to the story of Rama and Sita. As it will be Halloween on Friday we have also been busy singing songs and making pumpkins. Don’t forget there is a Halloween disco on Friday after school!

It’s an exciting time for Miss Cowling, next week is her last week in nursery for a while, She is going off on maternity leave for the next few months. But we look forward to a return visit in the very near future with her new arrival!

Nursery Books

Please do remember that your child is welcome to choose a book from nursery to take home and share with you. When you have read it just bring it back and put it into one of our book boxes.
