We are celebrating World Book Day at Whitings Hill on Tuesday 3rd March and Mr Speed has planned a thrilling day of activities for us. The theme this year is 'Heroes and Villains' and the children (with the help of their parents of course!) can use their imagination to dress up as a book character to fit in with the theme.
The day starts off at 8:45am with a 'Reading Breakfast' where parents can come in to read with their child and help them design their potato character - yes a book character created from a potato (the school will provide the spuds and some resources to help with the decoration - obviously the children can also bring materials etc from home if they have a particular book character in mind). At 9:15 we'll say goodbye to the parents and the children will get on with the rest of their day.
Later in the morning, teachers will choose the best costume from their class and the winners will be whisked away to Waterstones to buy themselves a book of their choice. At the end of the day, the children will receive the special World Book Day tokens which they can use to purchase one of the books specially written for the event.
There's lots more happening but that would spoil the surprise. It's bound to be a fun-filled day so make sure you talk to your child about what they get up to.
