Happy new year!
I hope you had a healthy, safe and happy Christmas holiday. This term is going to be full of exciting learning opportunities that are going to keep us busy over the coming months.
Before I begin outlining what we will be coving this term I would like to first take a moment to thank everyone who has helped in preparing the children for our Christmas concert last month. You may have helped your child learn their lines or listened to them practice their songs. I am very grateful because everything led to a highly successful performance which was not only a pleasure to watch but also boosted the children's self-confidence and self-esteem.
Our English work this month and next month will be based on Kennings poems as well learning how to write a non-chronological report. Our poetry work will be focusing on different types of words and phrases, particularly similes and metaphors. Imagine that the children will be trying to create a picture with words rather than paint.
In Mathematics we will be revisiting place values, addition, subtraction as well as how to work with fractions and decimals. Furthermore, we will be focusing more on word and reasoning problems as well as establishing mathematical hypothesis to help us understand number patterns. For instance, 'When you divided two odd numbers you will always get an even numbered answer.' This type of work allows the children to test themselves and challenge what they know.
The topic of this term and next term will be learning about the Rainforests. Looking at questions such as Who lives in the rainforest? How do they (animals and humans) survive in the rainforest? as well as looking at the structure of the rainforest.
I am looking forward to this term and hope you are as well.
