The children and staff have really enjoyed exploring and learning all about the school Theme ‘Big Me’ this week.

Activities included learning about a variety of jobs that people do as well as a talk on Zoom from Firefighter Luke (Ruby’s Dad )! The children got to ask Luke lots of questions about what his work involves and he kindly showed them his uniform and items a firefighter has eg. helmet, torch and radio. Luke discussed how he uses his walkie talkie in emergencies and described how he can adjust the light settings on his helmet torch.

This week ended with ‘BIG ME DAY’ on Friday with children coming to school dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up eg, footballer, doctor, nurse, teacher etc… Please see Tapestry and our website for photographs.

Next week we will be learning all about Chinese New Year and how this is celebrated. We will talk about Celebrations we have been part of and activities will include Dragon dancing, decorating lanterns and making paper dragons.

Alongside our theme of Chinese New Year we will be learning about Growth and how our bodies grow. We will talk about healthy eating and measure body parts, talking about the differences in sizes, measuring hand spans and height.

The children have had another busy week enjoying making houses from bricks, junk modelling and collage. Thank you to everyone who brought in their pictures of their front doors to share with everyone.  Next week we will focus on activities based on the book ‘Bedtime for Monsters’ by Ed Vere. This is a lovely book that a lot of children may already be familiar with. Children will love the fun, colourful illustrations and playful language combined with great effect in this clever and funny picture book. Children will talk about feelings and emotions connected to monsters and activities will include using a variety of media and techniques to represent and make their own monsters, making monster masks to re-enact the story, creating a monster den / cave in the role play area, making monster foot prints from potatoes / use vehicles / animals in paint to make tracks and compare them.

Don’t forget to check Tapestry to see pictures of the children’s work.

This week we have introduced the book ‘This is our House’ by Michael Rosen.  This is a simple tale about sharing and friendship, about realising that everyone is different and it is that, that makes life much more fun.

We will continue this story next week focussing on Friendships, our homes and families and what makes us all unique!  We will investigate and name the different types of houses we live in and talk about the functions of the different rooms in our homes. As part of our work next week on Houses and families, please could you talk to your children about the type of house they live in eg, flat, bungalow, maisonette, semi- detached/detached house…. Look at your front door and talk about its shape. What is your door number? Could your child draw and colour in a picture of their door and write their door number and please bring in to put on a Class display in Nursery. Thank you!
