January

14th January 2022

The children have had another busy week enjoying making houses from bricks, junk modelling and collage. Thank you to everyone who brought in their pictures of their front doors to share with everyone.  Next week we will focus on activities based on the book ‘Bedtime for Monsters’ by Ed Vere. This is a lovely book that a lot of children may already be familiar with. Children will love the fun, colourful illustrations and playful language combined with great effect in this clever and funny picture book. Children will talk about feelings and emotions connected to monsters and activities will include using a variety of media and techniques to represent and make their own monsters, making monster masks to re-enact the story, creating a monster den / cave in the role play area, making monster foot prints from potatoes / use vehicles / animals in paint to make tracks and compare them.

Don’t forget to check Tapestry to see pictures of the children’s work.

‘Big Me’ Week

There will be a themed week for the whole school starting on Monday 24th January culminating in in a special BIG ME DAY on Friday 28th January when children will be able to come to school dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up eg, footballer, doctor, nurse, teacher etc…During this week we will have lots of activities related to people who help us and different types of jobs. If you would like to talk to the children about your job via a Zoom meeting please let us know.

Welcome back to Nursery. We hope everyone had a good break and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

We would also like to welcome our new children and their families joining us this term. We are looking forward to working with you and your child.

We will be sending out the Tapestry links over the next week for the new parents. Please look out on your emails and check the spam folders throughout the week. If you do not receive an email link please let us know at the end of the week and we will check we have entered your email address correctly.

This week we have introduced the book ‘This is our House’ by Michael Rosen.  This is a simple tale about sharing and friendship, about realising that everyone is different and it is that, that makes life much more fun.

We will continue this story next week focussing on Friendships, our homes and families and what makes us all unique!  We will investigate and name the different types of houses we live in and talk about the functions of the different rooms in our homes. As part of our work next week on Houses and families, please could you talk to your children about the type of house they live in eg, flat, bungalow, maisonette, semi- detached/detached house…. Look at your front door and talk about its shape. What is your door number? Could your child draw and colour in a picture of their door and write their door number and please bring in to put on a Class display in Nursery. Thank you!
