Growth Mindset

What is growth mindset?

Individuals who believe their talents can be developed, have a growth mindset. This can be done through hard work, good strategies, and input from others. Those with a growth mindset have positive thinking, believe they can achieve and can learn through their mistakes.

Those with a fixed mindset are individuals who believe their talents are limited (those who believe their talents are innate gifts) and they can't achieve. They compare themselves to others and avoid challenges.

Those with a growth mindset tend to achieve more than those with a more fixed mindset.

Have a look at images below for examples of growth mindset vs fixed mindset.

As a class, we looked through a powerpoint explaining what we can do to change our fixed mindsets to a growth mindset. Once we discussed this, we decorated a hand and then wrote something positive about ourselves. The children came up with ideas like, "I believe in myself!" "I can do it!" " I am getting better at maths!"

We displayed our hand on our classroom door so everyone can see how we are all working on our growth mindset.
