Governors

Our Governors play a very important role at Whiting's Hill. The Governors are responsible for a huge array of duties ranging from managing the school budget to employing staff to overseeing the curriculum and ensuring the upkeep of the building. Our Governors work very hard for the development of successful learning at Whiting's Hill and there are a variety of times during the school year when you can meet them.

The governing body constitution we have adopted stipulates that the board shall consist of a total of 12 governors and to include:

a) 4 parent governors

b) 1 Local Authority (LA) governor

c) 2 staff governors (of whom one is the headteacher)

d) 5 co-opted governors

Below is a list of our Governors:

Co-Opted Governors

Ms Gina Theodorou (co-opted Governor)

I was first appointed as a governor on 07/04/2011 and was Chair from 2014-2020. I have been an active campaigner and member of the local community since 2002 and successfully headed a campaign to save the local children’s playing field from development & registered as our only local Village Green. I have stood in local elections and have a keen interest in politics, social & environmental issues.

I am Director of our local family electrical contractor and solar panel installation business. I have a BSc in Psychology and run a small rental property business. I am a mother of two, both now in secondary education. I believe that each child can flourish with the right opportunities and with the support of people that believe in them.

Kerry Histed

Mr Raaj Parmar (Vice Chair)

Raaj was first appointed as a governor on 19/05/2015. Raaj is the link governor for PE.

"I work as a business consultant and have spent time in financial services, motorsport and technology organisations delivering large business initiatives. Away from work I really enjoy music (playing, DJing and listening), and have a keen interest in helping young people unlock their potential which I hope can be achieved through the work of the governing body."

Parent Governors

Mr Joel Levy (Chair)

Joel was first appointed as a governor on 23/04/2015. Joel is the link governor for wellbeing.

"I'm the primary carer for twin boys, who have thrived at Whiting's for the last seven years, and from the start I've felt involved in the life of the school community. My work as a writer on science and history, including on books for children, informs my advocacy for the joy and power of reading, creativity and education in general. Putting these together with a desire to drive improvements in school policy - for instance in the area of healthy eating - is what first led me to join the governing body."

Tamador Elhag (Parent Governor)

Brain Townsend (Parent Governor)

I was appointed a parent governor in 2020. I have the role of Health and Safety.

For the last 24 years I have been employed as a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police Service. I have experience in borough policing, CID and currently as a firearms officer with the specialist protection world. Away from work I enjoy watching football, boxing and martial arts as well as DIY.  I applied to become a school governor as I wanted to give something back to the community that would benefit the local children.

Kaye Batten (Parent Governor)

I was appointed as Parent Governor in 2020 and am part of the Resources Committee. I am also the Link Governor for Digital / Website.

I have worked in Office Management, Human Resources, PA/EA & Digital Marketing for the past 19 years and am a CIPD Level 5 qualified HR Manager. I enjoy being creative, sports, volunteering and time with my sons who attend Whitings Hill. I also attended the school many years ago and care passionately about our young people, which is the main reason why I wanted to apply for the role of Parent Governor.

LA Governor

Janina Aitken – LA Governor
Janina is the Vice Principal at The Totteridge Academy and has played a vital role in its transformation since joining the school in 2016. Janina is passionate about education and believes no child’s educational success should be limited by their background. Educational disadvantage remains one of the most destructive and pervasive problems in the UK, and Janina, as Pupil Premium link Governor works closely with the Pupil Premium lead to ensure that the children at Whiting's Hill make excellent progress throughout their time at school and achieve their age-related targets.

Staff Governors

Ms Sejal Patel

Sejal has been the headteacher since 14/03/2014 when she also was first appointed as a governor. 'I have been Headteacher at Whiting's Hill School since 2014. I absolutely love everything about the school - it is the most amazing place, with incredible children and staff. We work hard but we also have a lot of fun at our school.'

Ms Jane Porteous

Jane was first appointed as a governor on 28/02/2000. Jane is the link governor for Pupils.

"I have been a teacher in a variety of Barnet  schools for over 30 years, the last 15 of those at Whiting's Hill. My connection with the school is however, much longer. I was a pupil at the school many moons ago, and my own two daughters attended Whiting's Hill as well. As a governor, I started the role as a parent Governor when my eldest daughter started in Reception, and then years later, when I joined the school as a member of staff, I changed from parent, to school governor. I see my role as offering the inside perspective to the other governors, and also the spokesperson for the other staff.

The Governors meet twice a term as a full body – the Minutes of these meetings are available from the school office on request.

The committees meet once a term and are set out as follows:
