 Facts about Baku

 Baku (Azerbaijani: Bakı) is the capital and the largest city of Azerbaijan.

It is on the southern shore of the Apsheron Peninsula.

Modern Baku has three parts: the Old Town (İçəri Şəhər), the boomtown and the Soviet-built town. About 3 million people live in the metropolitan area.

There are large numbers of refugees and internally displaced persons.

In Baku area there is a lot of oil.

There are a lot of state and private universities.

Nearby airport: Heydar Aliyev International Airport
Area: 826.3 sq miles

Population: 2.278 million (2019)

Stadium: Olympic Stadium

 

Olympic Stadium - The construction of the 225,000-square-meter stadium on a 650,000-square-meter site was completed in February 2015.

The six-storey, 65.7 meter structure near Boyukshor Lake, Baku, Azerbaijan, opened on 6 March 2015.

The main tenant of the stadium is Azerbaijan's national football team
