September

28th September 2018

This week we have been doing lots of work around the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Lots of children have enjoyed acting out the story, making different sized bears, playing with porridge oats and making their own big, medium sized and little bowls of porridge. We also made some flapjacks using the porridge oats. Thank you to all the parents who have been looking at the vocabulary on the back of our newsletters with their children. It does really help to support their learning during the topics if they are familiar with the vocabulary.

The vocabulary this week is related to the theme Nursery Rhymes, next week’s theme. Rhyming is an important pre-reading skill so if you know any rhymes, in any language, do teach them to your children. Children love to play around with language, and when they begin to hear rhymes they will often start to make up their own rhyming words.

21st September 2018

Welcome all the new families who started this week. Next week we will be welcoming the last of the new children. So do say hello to any new parents or carers you see at the gate. I will leave the session times on the newsletter for a few weeks until everyone is in.

The children all enjoyed the activities we did around the story of The Three Little Pigs. We had some lovely house building and lots of very fierce wolves! Lots of children can retell the story in their own words. They may like to tell you the story themselves at home.

Next week we will be doing lots of work around the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will be exploring differences in sizes and we will start our weekly cooking activities by making oat flapjacks. This story also lends itself to shapes so we will extend shape as our theme into next week.

14th September 2018

Welcome all the new families who started this week. The children who have been in this week have all settled into our routine very quickly.

Next week we will be welcoming a few more new children. So do say hello to any new parents or carers you see at the gate. I will leave the session times on the newsletter for a few weeks until everyone is in.

We will be doing lots of work around the story of the Three Little Pigs next week. Lots of children are familiar with the story already, but if your child does not know the story we will be reading it over the week with them. There are lots of problem solving activities, designing and making activities, extending maths language related to size and comparisons as well as imaginative role play activities. The story also lends itself to shapes so we will include shape as a theme.

7th September 2018

Welcome back to everyone. We hope you all enjoyed the summer break! The staff certainly did, but we’re all happy to be back ready for a new school year! We welcome Carol, who will be in nursery at lunchtimes, helping the children who stay all day. We also welcome all the new families who started this week. The children who have been in this week have all settled back into our routine very quickly.

Next week we will be beginning to welcome new children. Small groups of new children will be starting on Mondays and Wednesdays mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, over the next month. It will get busier and busier over the next few weeks so please bear with us! All the children will be in by the last week in September.
