November

25th November 2016

The theme of the week has been all about Friendships. We have focussed on the book ‘On Sudden Hill’, which looks at a friendship between two boys and what happens when a third friend comes to play with them. The children have enjoyed having the story read to them, and discussed who are friends are and what makes a good friend ! Next week the children will take part in role play and talk about how the characters feel in certain parts of the book. As the story involves the main characters turning cardboard boxes into different creations, we will also be making our own creations too. Please could you bring in some small and large cardboard boxes.  Please ensure that these boxes do not contain any traces of nuts due to allergies.

Its Not a Box!

We would like to ask you to work with your child over the weekend to take an ordinary box and make it into something exciting ! You can transform the box into something new and exciting and encourage  your child to record the adventures they have with the ‘not a box’ in any way they like, using a combination of photographs, drawings, writing or annotation. Perphaps  you could  add comments  or scribe a story or instructions or description for your child about their box. On the box’s return to school, children will share their box with the class, using the book to help them talk about what they did. The boxes will be displayed in the main library of the school. Good Luck!

4th November 2016

This week we have been learning about Diwali - a festival celebrated by Hindu people.  We recreated Rangoli patterns through drawing, painting and soft play blocks. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and made diva lamps from playdough and decorative materials.

Next week we will also be looking at the theme of Fireworks and Bonfire night. We will turn our role play shed into a Hot Chocolate stall and our small world area into a bonfire. We will talk about our firework experiences and look at a fireworks display and recreate them. We will also listen to the story ‘Whatever Next!’  Could you please bring in any cardboard rolls for making rockets.
