This week the children enjoyed the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ by Nick Butterworth. They took part in retelling the story and made predictions about what might happen at the end of the story. They had the opportunity to write their own end to the story and the teachers were amazed by the children’s creative ideas. The warm weather has seen the beans that the children planted begin to grow and we have been learning about caring for the bean seeds by watering them. The children have been very excited and enjoyed record observations of this in their bean diary.

This week the children have enjoyed the traditional tale, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ They took part in retelling the story sequence using the story language and explored the emotions and actions of the different characters. We also wrote the story, made junk modelling castles and planted our own beans. Silver class enjoyed their visit to the open space and loved making clay faces on the trees and other materials they could find around them. Gold group will be visiting the Open Space on Wednesday.

This week we continued exploring the book ‘Yucky Worms’ by Vivian French. The children wrote their own worm poems and enjoyed sharing them with the class. We started planting beans in anticipation of next weeks theme – Jack and the Beanstalk.

This week we have been exploring the book ‘Yucky Worms’ by Vivian French. We read a letter from an earth worm called, Mr. Wormy, and we found out that he was sad because lots of people thought he was yucky! We found out lots of cool facts about worms through the book and watching videos about worms. Gold group went to the Open Space. We had great fun exploring, we found buttercups and dandelion clocks. We also took part in some observational drawings of worms and other mini-beasts. We went on a mini-beast hunt in our outdoor area too and made a tally chart. The children found out the most and least common mini-beast in the woodland area.
