This week we did lots of rhyming activities to fit in with poetry week. We have lots of very good rhymers in nursery this year! The children were very lucky to have a real poet come in to visit them at the beginning of the week. Please do carry on encouraging them to rhyme words at home. They don’t have to be real words, nonsense rhymes are fine as well.
Next week we are going to carry on with the rhyming. We will be reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear to the children. We will then use some of the work that they produce to make our next display in the main school Heart space.
This weekend is RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch weekend. In nursery we have been feeding the birds and encouraging them to come into our outside area for some time now. We have regular bird visitors who come down for our food. The children regularly make bird seed biscuits to put out for them. Lots of children enjoy watching the birds and often remind staff to feed them now. This maybe something that you would like to extend at home, helping the children develop and interest in, and learning about their natural environment. You can get some great ideas, online games, kids completions and more info on the RSPB site. www.rspb.org.uk

Another busy week! All the new January intake children have now started in nursery. You will see some new parents/carers at the gate, so please do chat to them and make them feel welcome. The new children are settling in well, but this time of year is always a bit disruptive for the older children. Hopefully we will get back into our normal routines within the next couple of weeks.
We are going to carry on with our theme, Wild Animals, next week. We will carry on finding out lots of facts from books and from the internet, making animal models and paintings and even moving like animals in PE. Lots of children had a go at cutting out animal model this week. Children need lots of practise at cutting, so it may be a skill that you would like to help them with at home!
Next week is Poetry Week at school. A performance poet will be coming into Nursery, Monday and Tuesday, to do short workshops with the children. We will also be finding animal poems to fit in with our theme. If you know any simple short poems, please do send them in with your child and we can read them out to the class.

Well Christmas is over and here we are in 2019!
We hope you all had a good break and enjoyed your Christmas festivities. The children have been telling us all about the things they enjoyed doing over the break. They were all very pleased to see their friends in nursery and have settled back in very quickly.
Next week the new January intake children start coming into nursery. So please bear with us until they are all settled in. You will see some new parents/carers at the gate, so please do chat to them and make them feel welcome. Starting somewhere new can be just as hard for grown ups!
Our theme for next week is going to be Wild Animals. We will be finding out lots of facts from books and from the internet, making animal models and paintings and even moving like animals in PE.
