Welcome back ! We hope you all enjoyed your Half term. This week the children have enjoyed learning about Jungle animals and their habitats. We read some jungle themed stories, drew observational drawings of jungle animals and created jungle animal flap books. Children also looked at the theme of alliteration through the popular rhyme ‘Tommy Thumb’.
Next week we will continue the theme of ‘The Jungle’. The book of the week will be ‘Jazzy in the Jungle’. We will be exploring Jungle sounds using our sense of hearing and ‘drawing’ what we can hear. We will also continue contrasting Jungle habitats with our own local habitat. Activities will also include making animal masks and investigating texture making jungle collages.

This week we have been enjoying the theme of Magical Maths! The children enjoyed a special assembly on Tuesday, watching lots of ‘magical maths activities’! We have also been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have been learning about the Chinese culture and seeing how people celebrate this festival. We listened to the story of Chinese New Year ‘The Great Race’, retold the story and made dragons and Chinese envelopes. We enjoyed copying Chinese writing and numbers using small paintbrushes in red salt. We had a go at tasting noodles and using chopsticks to eat them!
Next week, will be ‘Bird Week’. We will be going bird watching, doing observational drawings of birds and making bird nests. We will be making the bird nests/homes from junk modelling boxes. Please could we have boxes, kitchen roll or any other containers. Please ensure boxes have no traces of nuts due to allergies.
Towards the end of the week, we will be decorating biscuits and making cards for Valentine’s day. Thank you very much for your donations of 50p a week. Please keep it up! Next week we will be decorating biscuits for Valentine’s Day.
