15th December 2017
This week the children were fantastic performers and we are so proud of all of them. They enjoyed performing to the rest of the school on Wednesday and parents and carers on Friday. It was lovely to see so many of you and we hope you enjoyed it.
On the cold, snowy days the children got to make their own delicious hot chocolates with a choice of delicious toppings.
Santa’s workshop was very busy with Elves making lots of presents and writing names and labels so Santa would know where to deliver them! We also had a visit from Father Christmas himself with a special delivery of presents for everyone! The children were very excited to give Santa their Christmas list and treated him by performing the Christmas Show where they sang and danced beautifully. Santa read the children a funny Christmas story and everybody had a photo with him. On Friday during shared writing we wrote a thank you letter to Santa which we posted to the North Pole.
Next week will be our last week before the Christmas holidays. We will be making white chocolate Rice Krispies cakes.
After the holidays we will be enjoying the book ‘Blue Penguin’ by Petr Horacek. We will read the text, talk about Antarctica and the different animals that live there. We’ll also be looking at maps/ globes to see Antarctica’s location in relation to where we live in the world.

This week we read the book ‘Blue Penguin’ by Petr Horacek. We talked about Antarctica and learnt about different types of Arctic animals. We painted wintery scenes in the style of Petr Horacek’s illustrations. We thoroughly enjoyed some fishing addition in the maths area. Also this week the children helped to transform the role play area into an Elf Workshop. This provided an exciting opportunity for the children to engage in Literacy and Art skills as they created banners, labels, signs, Christmas lists and Elf toy designs as well as using paint and collage to create a life size Elf and Santa.
Next week, we will be focussing on Christmas! We will talk about what families do to celebrate this time of year. The children will receive an exciting video message from Santa himself asking the children to write their Christmas list in time for his arrival from the North Pole on Thursday. The children will also take part in writing letters to Santa, reading Christmas stories and telling ones of our own and making Christmas cards.
This week we will be looking at toys, particularly toys from the past. We talked about the types of toys they play with now and what types of toys their parents and grandparents played with. We shared and talked about the children’s favourite toys too.
Next week we will be enjoying the book ‘Blue Penguin’ by Petr Horacek. We will be talking about Antarctica and learning about different types of Arctic animals. There will be activities painting Arctic scenes in the style of illustrations from Petr Horacek’s texts and looking at maps/ globes to see Antarctica’s location in relation to where we live in the world. We would like to ask you for donations of cardboard rolls for model making activities as part of our theme.
