Wow here we are in December and already one third of the way through the school year. Take it from me there is no better place to be than in a primary school in the run up to Christmas and 4M are full of anticipation and excitement about all that school has to offer them over the coming month. The smiling happy faces of the children are a joy to see.
Can I take this opportunity to thank all those parents and carers who came along to our family circle time during our whole school friendship week. It was lovely to have you joining in with our circle time and it was the perfect way to demonstrate to both your own child, and their classmates, how much you value what happens in school as we seek to develop the children into well rounded and confident individuals. We will do this again so please join us.
Prior to the fun of the festive season we have been working hard on our termly assessments. All the children in 4M were assessed on their reading, spelling, grammar, writing and maths skills and knowledge. These assessments were rigorous and certainly tested the children but I am very pleased to say that each and every child in our class did their best and gave 100% effort. The results reflect this and all the children should be very proud of themselves. I will use the results to plan for our work next term.
Our Christmas production is shaping up nicely so please save the date so you can come to one of our two performances. The daytime performance is at 2.00 pm on Monday 12th December and our evening performance is at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 13th December. The children have been telling me that when they practise their singing at home family members have been joining in! I'm looking forward to seeing whole families singing along at the performances.
The children have now had access to our new spelling website 'Spellodrome' for five weeks. Many of the children are using it but I would like to see everyone logging on at least twice each week. Please can you remind your child to log on. While on the subject of spelling I have noticed that a few children in 4M are not learning their weekly spellings. These are part of their homework and must be practised. Our weekly spelling dictation takes place every Monday at 1.15 pm.
As you know our topic for this half term is called 'On Tap - Water'. This has been an interesting topic that the children have become very absorbed in, however due to events such as Friendship Week and preparing for our Christmas performances, we will not have completed this topic by the end of term so I plan to continue it for the first two weeks of the Spring term in January 2017. After that we will start our new topic 'Saving the World - Rainforests.' Our new topic will last for the whole of the Spring term so we do have a couple of extra weeks to complete the scientific learning from On Tap.
Our class assembly on Monday 14th November was based on our learning from On Tap and the children did a fantastic job sharing their knowledge. The hall was full of our families and friends who came to watch and support us and the children were delighted with themselves. Our song/rap was the highlight of the assembly and we all enjoyed hearing the admiring comments and congratulations we received from fellow pupils in other classes, school based adults and our families. It was a really positive experience for all the children in 4M so thank you for coming along.
There are a many diary dates for December so here are the main ones: Christmas Fair on Friday 2nd, Christmas jumper day on Wednesday 14th, Christmas dinner on Wednesday 14th, party day on Tuesday 20th and the last day of term on Wednesday 21st.
Once again I would like to thank everyone associated with 4M for the support you have given us this term and Mrs Mogford, Ms Davidson and I wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.
